Installation

JwContacts is or will shortly be available in the Application store suitable for your device:

1. Android: Play Store (look in Beta section)

2. Apple: App Store

3. Windows: Microsoft Store (look in Beta section) and at https://www.jwcontacts.com/Pages/Downloads.html

Note: JwContactsUD at that web link requires the least installation effort and has the most capabilities.

JwContacts is a moderately large application, about three times larger at install than JW Library.

This is so even though JWC is always 100% "native" device code.

An Android user should have at least a combined one-half gigabyte of storage available for JWC and the data he'll likely have it store.

JwC does run very slowly on economy devices with little memory or storage by modern standards.

A first install creates a set of new, empty databases as well as installing the application.

JwC updates will NOT replace those databases, although it may someday have to alter their structure, so data should persist through any update.

Nonetheless frequent backups are highly recommended.

A number of permissions will be required (and perhaps requested prior to install) on Mobile devices:

Use of Camera and Photo Gallery

Use of Internet (at least when connected to a secure WiFi point)

Access to Common storage areas

Access to any Geolocation ability

Sufficient private storage for all the image data

(allow at least 1 MB per Congregation associate, 0.5 MB per map, and sufficient for each document)

Currently JwC must remain installed on an Android's internal storage, not on a replaceable SD card.

Data exchange on Android allows use of a separate Email application; on Apple devices JwC's own email client must be configured and used.

JwC has its own PDF Excel and Word generation abilities, including even an ODS generation for text.

(Word is used now only for import, but capability exists to compose a Word document.)

For certain older Android (KitKat series, the oldest supported) and Apple devices a separate PDF reader application should be installed.

JwC has its own PDF reader for newer devices.

(Note: A second JWC PDF reader is being tried which may remove need for another PDF reader on all devices.)

Except for JwContactsUD, JwC does not have an Excel or ODS reader; documents of that kind are frequently intended for use on an applicable Fixed Device.

However all versions of JwC can import both Excel and Word documents, transforming them into equivalent PDFs.
