Editions

JwContacts comes in several simlar editions, falling into two broad categories:

  • Mobile-Based. These are or were derived from code used to write mobile applications for Android and Apple mobile devices.
  • Desktop-Centric.Adapted from the earlier mobile-based code, but with entirely new visible screens and third-party software, they represent a super-set of JwC capabilities.

The Mobile-Based editions are:

  1. JwContacts for Android devices.
  2. JwContacts for Apple iPhones and iPads.
  3. JwContacts is offered in Windows Store for Windows 10, as JwContactsUD, with enhanced styling and abilities. This version has a separate User Guide.
  4. An older JwContacts for Windows with same capabilities as the Andoid and Apple iOS versions has been withdrawn in favor of the newer JwContactsUD.

Most sections of this Guide illustrate and discuss use on the Mobile-based versions.

Desktop-Centric useage will usually be quite similar, although the matching screerns may differ slightly or significantly.

Please see the Universal Desktop area for discussion of features limited to the Desktop-Centric versions.

The Desktop-Centric editions are:

1. JwContactsUD (JwC Universal Desktop) for Windows 64-bit devices, including Windows 7 64-bit

Greatest differences between categories:

  • Mobile-based include a barcode scanner (waiting for similar 3rd-party control for Desktop-Centric).
  • Desktop-Centric utilize more of a desktop surface, not needing to be designed to fit small devices.
  • Desktop-Centric can be readily and quickly installed wherever user wants and do not require only minimal information be passed to the operating system.
  • Desktop-Centric include full working office-style screens for Document preparation, Spreadsheet preparation, and Scheduling. With those first two a user can save to and restore from anywhere.
